Because a Maple licence costs over £100 per machine, Maple is only installed on one Statslab machine, currently sirtommy. For similar reasons, Matlab is not installed. If you need to use it, it's probably easiest to apply to the Computing Service for a PWF account if you don't already have one (download an application form).
If you work with PDF files, you can view them with gv or acroread, or convert a Postscript file to PDF with ps2pdf on the Linux machines.
All of the Windows machines have Microsoft Office installed. OpenOffice (a free ``clone'' of Microsoft Office) is available on the Linux machines for dealing with Word documents under Linux.
