Well, Pembroke at last appeared, and it was up to the start, on to the stake boats, landing effortlessly as if we'd been doing this everyday of our lives, and get ready for the action!
Lined up, and off. No scary scenarios, as we go through our build. Take a quick glance at the three tree I was told to pick as a post start steering marker. In typical Cam mode, the course sweeps around a corner. Still up, but that's because we were staggered. Actually we goof, but effect an instant recovery, so no boat stopper tales, but Pembroke have got themselves level out of that. Well, up really as the course carries on sweeping in their favour. They probably didn't even need that, as they escape to about three quarters of a length up by the time the gong ends proceedings.
So, for a first race as a crew (well with Katy subbing in at 7), against a solid Pembroke crew, not entirely the hoped for result, but admittedly, on the day, they proved a better crew. We shall return, stronger, better, faster, watch out!
By the standard of my previous race (under Staines colours) against Pembroke, a massive improvement. Back in 1997 at Bedford Ladies, they nearly had to drop down to light to not completely humiliate my eight. Not this time! A good crew, they went on to win, by default in their semi, and after another tight race against Downing in the Final.
Still a happy bunch back on terra firma,
us
